Healthy eating is one of the best ways to naturally strengthen your immune system this time of year. Join Chopping Block chef, Melissa Novak, for this demonstration class where she will expertly cover and discuss immunity-boosting food groups such as essential vitamins, probiotics, fiber and hydration so you can shoot for your healthiest January yet!
Essential Vitamins: Consuming adequate amounts of Vitamins C and D found in citrus fruits, berries, dark leafy green vegetables, red and orange vegetables, fatty fish and fortified dairy products will help ward off those winter colds! Recipe demonstrated: Curly Kale Caesar with Parmesan and White Anchovies.
Probiotics: Essential for "gut" health, foods containing "good" bacteria such as yogurt and kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha and pickles support the immune system through healthy digestion. Recipe demonstrated: Homemade Miso Soup with Shiitake Mushrooms and Tofu.
Fiber and Hydration: In order to assist in "getting healthy foods to where they need to go", fiber and hydration are necessary. Learn the differences between soluble and insoluble fiber, the importance of drinking water and the hidden treasure that is green tea. Recipes demonstrated: Green Tea Latte; Coconut-Almond Cookies with Chocolate Chips.
During class students will sample all the dishes prepared by the chef.
